Sauk Prairie Area Literacy Council
Serving adults of all backgrounds who want to improve their functional literacy skills.

Imagine....

.....what it would be like if you couldn't understand instructions at your new job, tell your doctor what's wrong when you're ill, or communicate with your child's teacher.  This is why the Sauk Prairie Area Literacy Council (SPALC) exists: to make the lives of our neighbors easier and more successful by helping them improve their functional literacy skills. Improved literacy can mean a safer, more productive life and encourage a stronger connection to our community.

The ability to communicate effectively in English opens doors to new opportunities and smooths the interactions of daily life.  We seek to serve adults in our community who want to improve their English language skills, earn their GED, apply for citizenship or meet other goals.
Our primary service area includes Sauk City, Prairie du Sac and surrounding communities in Wisconsin. SPALC recruits and trains adult volunteer tutors to assist learners, at no cost, in identifying and achieving their goals, so they can function more successfully at home, at work, and in their communities.  SPALC supports the efforts of tutors, students, and other volunteers by making appropriate resources, facilities, and funding available.  SPALC cooperates with other community service agencies and literacy providers, and promotes awareness of literacy in the community.
